It was a crazy and fun weekend...here are some of the highlights and lessons from the last few days:
- Having a Garage Sale--HARD WORK...I am glad we have only done a couple of these in my lifetime. One piece of advice--those things you have in your house that you think no one in their right mind will buy, yeah, those are the FIRST things that you will sell. People bought some of the most random stuff on the planet at the Bobbitt Garage Sale, but we greatly appreciate their support! The sale exceeded our expectations and was definitely worth the time!
- Seeing Shrek the Third--FUN MOVIE...I'll be the first one to tell you that I like movies and it's not too hard to entertain me, but so far, I am two for two with the "3-quels" after Spiderman 3 and Shrek. Hopefully Pirates 3 and Oceans 13 will keep the streak alive. Shrek definitely had some funny moments, but what I loved was the way the movie explored Shrek's fear of fatherhood. Some great video clips await for a series down the road. My favorite part of the movies was the "cuddle time" that Alison and I were able to share with Maddie. A third of the movie, Maddie sat in her one seat. For act two, she sat on my life. Act three took her to Alison's lap. And back to Daddy for the finale! Great fun!
- Preaching my final message at Euzoa--TOUGH...It's so hard to stand up and preach that final message at a church. I have done it five times in my life. You'd think it gets easier with practice, but it doesn't. On the flip side, I had a ball preaching last night. I am wiped out this morning, but it is the good kind of wiped out. I left my best out on that stage at Euzoa last night. I felt the Holy Spirit whisper the words "Well done" into my spirit as I walked off the stage in both services. As a preacher, you can't ask for anything better than that!
- Goodbye Party at Euzoa after Church--GREAT...After the second service, there was a farewell party for our family. So many wonderful people have been a part of our lives here in Steamboat and it is so difficult to leave our friends, but we have a peace that now is the right time to go. Our friends Nate and Katie did a fantastic job of organizing our party and we are truly thankful to them. The church gave us a beautiful picture of the aspen trees that we have grown to love during our time in the Yampa Valley. They also gave us a journal that was filled with many goodbye wishes from so many of our church friends. Both will bring back fond memories of our time in Steamboat for many years to come.
- Goodbye Party with our Band--PRICELESS...some of our closest friendships at Euzoa have come as a result of being the creative director for our worship gatherings and spending time with our amazing worship band. Jody and Erik invited the band and their families and some other great friends to their home on Saturday night and we had so much fun with them. Super food, great stories, and the celebration of friendship were shared. I have so much to say about how much these people mean to me, but I'll save it for a post later this week.
Lots of emotional stuff and some hard work over the past week. This week will bring more moving preparation, my final youth meetings as a youth leader, and celebrating with family over Chris' graduation in Denver this weekend. It's gonna be great!
I'm also feeling very inspired about blogging and have many things I want to write about in the next few weeks.
Now, I am going to edit the podcast message from last night...will post a link when it's ready!
